Richard Carey

Richard Carey is an attorney with a focus on intellectual property, technology, corporate, securities, and internet law. In addition to his legal education, he has studied Psychology, Computer Science, and Business, and has performed MBA-based research, development, and project management through a unique and highly selective university program.  Prior to his career in law, he managed a design, innovation, and marketing firm that specialized in technologies primarily targeted to professional services firms.

He has project team management, software design, web development, and law practice experience with startups and creative individuals, and has spent a decade in the trenches of real-world bootstrapping with several start-up companies and small businesses in technical, executive, and legal roles.  In 2004, he was chosen to lead the technology development team which designed a research university's online education system for incoming MBA students.  In 2005, he developed a web-based, international financial seminar system with Seven Seas Financial Group and managed legal transactions between the company, international banks, and law firms. In 2007, he served as general legal counsel and managed personnel for a small venture capital services firm in San Diego and programmed its proprietary web-based project management system.  Most recently, he accepted an in-house General Counsel and Director of Operations position at one of his clients, a rapidly expanding consulting firm. 

Mr. Carey is proficient in Spanish and French. He is also familiar with the European Union and international Intellectual Property law bodies, and has traveled throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. In his spare time, he has been active as a musician since a young age, and enjoys rock climbing, beer brewing, cinema, and learning about new things, people, and places.
